Gebrselassie hones in on third 10km title in Manchester

Haile Gebrselassie will chase a third victory when returning to compete over one of his favourite courses at the Bupa Great Manchester Run - IAAF Gold Label Road Race - on 16 May 2010. On his first appearance in 2005, the Ethiopian legend set what was then a new UK All-Comers's record of 27:25, while last year he was slowed by weather conditions.

Multiple all-America distance runner Ed Torres, half of one of the best-ever pairs of running brothers, has announced his retirement. Torres, 29, now lives with his wife Lynda in the Chicago suburbs where he and older twin Jorge first came to prominence at Wheeling High School in the late 1990s. Ed and Jorge have started a business in which they engrave medallions immediately after races for participants who want that added memento.

Houston set to host Olympic marathon trials

Houston will host the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, the first time one city will host the event for both men and women in the same year. The trials, which will determine the U.S. runners for the marathon in the 2012 Summer Games in London, will be held on Jan. 14, 2012. The race will be the day before the 40th anniversary of the running of the Houston Marathon.

Martin Lel, 31, of Kenya has won the Inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Half-Marathon in the men's field with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 7 seconds. Martin Lel won the Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon on Sunday.Sammy Wanjiru, also of Kenya, finished 26 seconds behind Sunday. Lel pushed for the lead over Wanjiru at the15K marker.

A disappointed Dathan Ritzenhein pulled out of next month's IAAF World Country Championships on Saturday. Ritzenhein, who trains with the Nike-based Oregon Track Club Elite/Portland group coached by Alberto Salazar, has been unable to completely shake a lingering problem on the bottom of one his feet.
