Masterful Lagat wins 3000m gold in Doha

No American runner has mastered the art of winning quite like Bernard Lagat. In Doha, the 35-year-old won the 3000m at the World Indoor Championships, becoming the first U.S. champion in the event and the oldest man ever to win gold at the meet. In the process, he also served as a role model for young teammate Galen Rupp, who finished fifth in a personal-best time.

The US athlete regained the title he last won six years ago with a totally dominant display and after opening up a 10m lead on this well beaten rivals had the time midway down the home stretch to raise an arm in acknowledgment to the crowd. Beautiful.
