Though they've retired, John McDonnell and Frank Broyles have emeritus offices from which they still work and dream for the University of Arkansas they've respectively served going on 37 and 52 years.This week, one of their dreams gets fulfilled.Of course it's really 40-time national championship men's track/cross country coach McDonnell's dream, the UA hosting the NCAA Men's and NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday through Saturday at John McDonnell Field.But it's a dream that former athletics director Broyles helped fulfill.

Foot Locker Champion Commits to Arkansas

Arkansas Razorback men's track and field head coach Chris Bucknam has announced the signing of Solomon Haile for the 2009-10 season, it was released Monday. "We are very excited to announce that Solomon will be attending Arkansas in the fall," Bucknam said. "He adds great depth in cross country and in the distance events on the track. He has raced against some of the best high school runners in the country and has proven to be successful. Our 2009-10 freshman class is turning into a very well-rounded group of student-athletes and they will bring a lot to our program."

Ulrey finding stride, pride as UA track star

New coach Chris Bucknam, piloting a Razorback indoor team ranked No. 1, oversees Dorian Ulrey and second-year Razorback transfer Andy McClary from California running the newly named McDonnell Mile.Ulrey was a University of Northern Iowa runner when Bucknam was the University of Northern Iowa coach. Ulrey forged to national runnerup in the NCAA Outdoor 1,500-meter run last June in Des Moines, Iowa.

John McDonnell has long been associated with the Tyson Invitational track and field meet.That association has been officially cemented. The longtime Arkansas coach's name will adorn the Tyson mile run, which will be known as the John McDonnell Mile.
