'I'm Really Excited About My Chances,' Says Ryan Hall
Posted by TheRunning
So are quite a few pundits. We've seen a lot of predictions - heck, including our own - that Ryan Hall can indeed be a marathon medalist in Beijing. As young as he is, it's been a long journey to brilliance at 26.2 miles for Hall, who, early in his career, fancied himself as a miler. "You never want to believe you can't do something as an elite athlete," explains Hall. "It was really hard for me to set aside my pride and move up," first to 5000 meters and then to the marathon.

On track with a new boss

Doug Logan likes the clear, unforgiving selection system at the Olympic trials, which cost reigning 200-meter world champion Tyson Gay a spot on the team after he pulled up lame in the quarterfinals. But he is less enamored of the confusing "A" standard rule that meant a trial's winner was not guaranteed a place.

Nevertheless, Joan Hasay and her coach Dr. Armando Siqueros are hopeful of a brisk pace rather than a tactical race in the World Junior Championships that would be advantageous to Hasay's strength.

Call Jenny Masche the Marathon Woman. Only a year after her dangerous delivery of sextuplets, she ran a 26.2-mile race. I hit walls taking care of them sometimes, she admitted, but there's something exhilarating on the other side.

Ryan Hall: New challenges
Posted by Matt
Besides logging hundreds of miles of running over the past two weeks I have been watching previous Olympic Marathons while I stretch or while doing core work. What I have noticed is that the favorite rarely seems to win. I was reflecting on why this is the case. It kind of blows my mind that someone with a PR some two minutes or more slower than another athlete can win on the most important day of both athletes careers. by Ryan Hall

“The Golden State” has long been a popular
designation for California and was made the official State Nickname
in 1968. It
is particularly appropriate since California's modern development can
be traced back to the discovery of gold in 1848 and fields of golden
poppies can be seen each spring throughout the state. The Golden State
Museum is also the name of a new museum slated to open in late 1998
at the California State Archives in Sacramento. The museum's exhibits
will bring to life the momentous events of California's history through
a series of innovative, interpretive exhibits.
