Banned sprinter Justin Gatlin finally won a round in his bid to defend his 100-meter title at the Beijing Olympics. His chances of ultimate success, though, still faced significant, perhaps insurmountable, obstacles. A Florida federal judge ruled Friday that Gatlin should be allowed to compete at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials, which begin June 27 in Eugene, Ore.

Florida State and Bob Braman agree to multi-year contract

Florida State University Director of Athletics Randy Spetman announced Thursday that Bob Braman has agreed to a three-year contract to remain the head coach of the Seminole Track and Field and Cross Country programs. Braman, who was hired as FSU's Cross Country Coach and an Assistant Track Coach in 2000, took over the reigns of the Track and Field program in 2004 and has led the Seminoles to three straight NCAA Men's Outdoor National Championship titles.

Florida State's Hannah England - who is from Oxford, England - won the 1500 at the NCAA East Regionals, which were contested at her college track in Tallahassee. She'll compete in the NCAA Championships next week in Des Moines.

Three Seminoles named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. In every facet it's been a great season for the Florida State women's cross country team. During the fall, the squad achieved a program-best third-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

The UCF track and field team will now compete in the Miami Elite Invitational on Saturday, April 12 in Coral Gables, Fla., head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert announced Thursday. This is a change from previous schedules.

Track and Field Opens Outdoor Slate at Hurricane Invitational (UCF Golden Knights)

Coming off its strongest indoor campaign since joining Conference USA, the UCF track and field team opens its 2008 outdoor season this weekend when it travels to Coral Gables, Fla., to participate in the Hurricane Invitational. The two-day event, hosted by the University of Miami at the Cobb Track and Field Facility, begins Friday at 3 p.m. and continues Saturday at 11 a.m.

A frosty morning in Arkansas gave way to a heated day of success as the Florida State track and field squad turned one automatic and three provisional qualifying marks at the Tyson Invitational. Among the day's highlights was a school record-breaking performance in the long jump from freshman Ngoni Makusha and two top 60m dash performances from All-Americans Walter Dix and Michael Ray Garvin.
