Friends and teammates gathered around the mother of 17-year-old Steven W. Thompson Wednesday night to remember the Centennial High School cross-country athlete who died in a three-car crash on Idaho 55 Tuesday.

As an athlete on the ISU track and field team, there are many "inside the scene" activities that happen during a meet. This weekend we competed in the last chance to qualify for the Big Sky Conference competition. The conference will be held next weekend. Months of training has begun to pay off for many of the athletes who have been hitting personal best marks.

In 1863, Congress designated the Idaho Territory with the erroneous understanding that Idaho was a Shoshone word meaning Gem of the Mountains. In spite of the misunderstanding concerning the origin of the name the state continues to be known as the “Gem State” and the “Gem of the Mountains”.
