I knew exactly who this phantom sprinter was - Alan Webb, American Record Holder in the mile (3:46.91, by the way), who had just arrived the night before to speak at a local coaches clinic. Although his Lakefront appearance suddenly made complete sense, I have to admit, I still couldn’t help but to be dumbfounded and completely belittled by his speed.

The Southern Illinois men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2008 Saluki SASF Invitational with strong field performances. Senior Brittany Riley got the Salukis off to a great start with her win in the women's weight throw. Riley turned in a throw of 78-01.75 (23.82m) to win the event.

The Illinois women's track and field team will face off against some of the country's elite in hosting the Illinois Women's Invitational at the UI Armory on Saturday, Jan. 19. The meet will start at 10 a.m. with the weight throw, while the running events are set to kick off at 1 p.m. with the distance medley relay.

Both ISU men's and women's indoor track and field teams came out victorious Saturday at the Illinois State Dual Meet. The men's team came out on top of the Redbirds with an impressive score of 80-65 and the women, whose matchup was somewhat closer, walked away victorious with a score of 77 -71 .

In its final meet of the season, Northwestern ran to a 15th-place finish at the 25-team NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Peoria. The Wildcats were led for the second straight race by junior Allison King, who came in 78th with a time of 22:04 for the 6K.
