Kennedy not concerned record isn't his any more

As far as Bob Kennedy was concerned, his record had lasted too long anyway. While track and field can sometimes suffer from too much emphasis on times and not enough on competition, Dathan Ritzenhein's time Friday represented a landmark achievement.
Ritzenhein finished third in the 5,000 meters at Zurich, Switzerland, in 12 minutes, 56.27 seconds. That broke the American record of 12:58.21 set by Kennedy, also at Zurich, on Aug. 14, 1996.
U.S. effort at track world championships better than portrayed
Posted by TheRunning
Given the United States' status as track and field's superpower, the criticisms leveled against it are understandable. No. 1 is always a target.
With that as a backdrop, U.S. bashers should have been more astute in assessing across-the-board performance at the World Championships, which ended Sunday in Berlin.
Shin Splints

In the first Women's Steeplechase semifinal, the barrier at the water obstacle was set three inches too high. Human error; no more, no less and totally unacceptable. We have too many seasoned officials present for this kind of mistake to take place. We exposed too many athletes to an inherently dangerous condition, and we should be roundly chastised for our error. by Doug Logan

“Hoosier State” came into general usage in the 1830s.
John Finley of Richmond wrote a poem, "The Hoosier's Nest," which
was used as the "Carrier's Address" of the Indianapolis Journal,
Jan. 1, 1833. It was widely copied throughout the country and even
abroad. A few days later, on January 8, 1833, at the Jackson Day dinner
at Indianapolis, John W. Davis offered "The Hoosier State of Indiana" as
a toast. And in August, former Indiana governor James B. Ray announced
that he intended to publish a newspaper, The Hoosier, at Greencastle,
Indiana.
