Derwood, Maryland, USA - 2004 Olympic men's marathon silver medalist Meb Keflezighi won his third national cross country title while Emily Brown won her first at the USA Cross Country Championships on Saturday (7) at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, Maryland.

Dathan Ritzenhein will defend his national cross country title on Feb. 7 in Derwood, Md. He also won in 2005. Two weeks ago, the 26-year-old placed second in the national half marathon championships behind the 2004 Olympic silver medalist in the marathon, Meb Keflezighi.

Meb Keflezighi enters USA Cross Country Championships

2004 Olympic men's marathon silver medalist Meb Keflezighi has entered the USA Cross Country Championships, USA Track & Field announced Tuesday. A two-time champion in the 12 km, Keflezighi will be making his first appearance at the USA Cross Country Championships since 2003. Also on Tuesday, USATF announced that two-time Olympian and defending champion Dathan Ritzenhein (Eugene, Ore.) was forced to withdraw from the championships due to the flu.

Big-time cross-country racing is coming to Maryland. USA Track and Field has selected the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood as the venue for the 2009 USA Cross Country Championships on Feb. 7. The event will be hosted by the Montgomery County Road Runners Club.

A new Guinness Book of World Records record was set this morning at the Frederick Marathon. Michael Wardian, of Arlington, Va., set the record for the fastest marathon while pushing a baby in a stroller.
Matt Centrowitz wins Penn Relays mile, breaks meet record

The Penn Relays record for the high school boys mile run had stood for the last 35 years. Not anymore, thanks to Broadneck High School senior Matthew Centrowitz. It wasn’t enough that he became the first runner to win the 3,000-meter run in one year and follow it up with a mile victory the next, but Centrowitz also took down one of the oldest records in the books of a meet that spans over 113 years.
