David Torrence (Oakland, Calif.) successfully defended his title as Anna Pierce (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) took the women's crown at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships Thursday night in Minneapolis, Minn. Torrence ran 4:04.0 and Pierce was timed in 4:33.9.

Jason Lehmkuhle, 31, of Team USA Minnesota, who was fifth in the U.S. Olympic Men's Marathon Trials in New York in November of 2007 in 2:12:54, will be running the Boston Marathon on April 19. In his last two appearances at the ING New York City Marathon, he was eighth in 2008 in 2:14:30 and 10th in 2009 in 2:14:39. Lehmkuhle was second in the 2008 USA Half-Marathon in 1:02:32. In 2009, he was third in the USA 20K in 59:04 and fourth in the USA 10 Mile in 47:16. Lehmkuhle was ninth in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in 2:16:27.

Aaron Studt , R.J. McGinnis and Chris Rombough captured All-America honors to lead the Minnesota men's track & field team to an eighth-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. The Gophers' top-10 showing is the highest since a seventh-place finish in 2003.

Five Team USA Minnesota Runners Place in Top 10 at USA Cross Country Championships; Jason Lehmkuhle Wins Mercedes Half Marathon in Birmingham

Five Team USA Minnesota distance runners placed in the top 10 of their respective open races at the USA Cross Country Championships in Spokane on Feb. 13. The Minnesota men included Patrick Smyth, who led the race through 9 km of the 12 km race and finished second in 34:52 (winning time was 34:34). Following Smyth to the finish line were Antonio Vega who was eighth in 35:41, and Matt Gabrielson who placed tenth with a time of 35:47. In the women's 8km championship race, Emily Brown was the first Team USA Minnesota finisher across the line in seventh place with a time of 26:55, followed by Katie McGregor in ninth in 27:08. Meghan Armstrong placed 13th with a time of 27:33.

Emily Brown, 25, of Team USA Minnesota is the defending champion for Saturday's USA Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Washington. Brown was third in the Championships in 2008 and 18th in World Cross Country that year. Originally from Wisconsin, she attended the University of Minnesota and still holds school records in the indoor 3000 and in the 3000-meter steeplechase outdoors.

Team USA Minnesota's Meghan Armstrong has been named to the U.S. squad that will compete at the 2009 International Chiba Ekiden in Chiba, Japan, on Nov. 23. The squad of three women and three men will run a marathon relay against teams from nine nations including Australia, Canada, China, Ethiopia, Great Britain, Romania, Russia, Sweden and Japan.

Carrie Tollefson, the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials 1500-meter champion who was once on the cover of "Runner's World" and "Running Times" in the same month, was beginning to make her way back to the top echelons of her sport in 2009 after a prolonged stretch of injuries and some major surgery; she had Tollefson Carrie 2009 run 15:35.33 for 5000 meters at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley in April.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, USA - Yesterday on a cool Sunday morning (4 October), with 7C at the start and an overcast sky, USA's Jason Hartmann, 28, and Ilsa Paulson, 20, took substantial victories at the 28th Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, crossing with personal bests of 2:12:31 and 2:31:49 accordingly.

We talked to the man who helped start it all, Roy Griak. It was crazy to see all the high school athletes that were amazed to see Coach Griak. The young athletes were constantly asking to take photos with him, it was great to see how much people truly appreciate Roy. The meet has made huge strides over the years and we are thankful he started such a great event that get people excited about our sport!

Two Team USA Minnesota distance runners - Jason Lehmkuhle and Katie McGregor - will be among the competitors at the 32nd Great Cow Harbor 10k in Northport, New York, on Sept. 26. The race has over 5,000 participants and is marked by its view of the Long Island Sound and downhill finish. The 10k starts at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern).

Three Team USA Minnesota distance runners - Patrick Smyth , Jason Lehmkuhle and Kristen Nicolini Lehmkuhle - will be among the competitors at the USA 20k Championships on Sept. 7 in New Haven, Conn. The championship race is held in conjunction with the 32nd annual Stratton Faxon New Haven 20k Road Race and begins at 8:40 a.m. (Eastern) on Labor Day.
“L'Etoile du Nord” or “The Star of North” is
the state motto of Minnesota. The “North Star State” has
given people a sense of direction over the course of time.
Minnesota is known on its license plates as the “Land of 10,000
Lakes,” but Minnesota actually has 12,000 lakes.
