Many times on the national prep landscape, the most successful girls make a splash early in their careers and remain on the scene for years (think Jordan Hasay and Ashley Brasovan). In other instances, the progression is more measured, occurring in fits and starts, with injuries and setbacks sprinkled into the evolution. Such has been the case with recent Nike Indoor National 2 Mile champion Kathleen McCafferty of Oak Knoll HS in New Jersey.

The men's 4x800 relay team captured an 11th-place finish (8:10.35), posting an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying mark. Team members included senior Josh Krowicki, freshman Kyle Roos and juniors Rob McGowan and Chris Guerriero. Krowicki and McGowan also met ECAC times in their respective events.

Manalapan distance runner Robby Andrews turned in a huge day at the New Balance Games on Saturday. One of 12 boys running in the invitational mile at The New Balance Track and Field Center at the New York Armory, Andrews won in a time of 4:12.48.

Bob Kennedy made a visit to the Nassau Street store Friday as part of the promotion of the new Puma cross country spikes, and the crowd to meet the American record holder in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters almost spilled out onto the sidewalk. "I think it was a great turnout," said store manager Becky Miller. "It was a perfect time for him to come with so many kids starting their seasons. He gave out some really good training tips and talked about his personal experiences. It was the perfect time of year for it."

The senior at St. Anthony's (Jersey City) was named Track and Field News men's athlete of the year in 2006. He could have a repeat performance in 2007. Henning was honored as the No. 1 16-year-old hammer thrower in the world at a Moroccan competition and earned the same title for 17-year-olds in Beijing.

The indoor track and field season has been one long road trip.With limited venues in which to compete, indoor track and field coaches and athletes have traveled all over the Northeast this winter searching for meets. The New York Armory has provided the setting for most of the action, but Boston University and Dartmouth College have been destinations as well.

Northwood University announced Friday that Scott Cook has resigned as the men’s and women’s track and cross country coach, effective Monday. During his time at NU, Cook coached 12 All-Americans and 24 national qualifiers.

They won it all earlier this month, and now the town of Manlius is honoring their championship. The Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Cross Country team endured mud and rain to win the Nike National Championship in Portland, Oregon.

A distinguished citizen of Camden, Hon. Abraham Browning , stirred the pride of Jerseymen by telling them, at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, on New Jersey Day, August 24, 1876, that our “Garden State” is like a huge barrel, with both ends open, one of which is plucked by New York and the other by Pennsylvania.
