Youth Displays Staying Power in Half-Marathon

Conventional wisdom is not always borne out. In Sunday’s NYC Half-Marathon, 36-year-old Catherine Ndereba of Kenya won the women’s race, but in the men’s race, 20-year-old Tadesse Tola of Ethiopia outkicked 23-year-old Patrick Makau of Kenya by about six feet.

United States Olympian Dathan Ritzenhein says he will run to win the NYC Half-Marathon Presented by NIKE on Sunday (27), but that is just part of his goal in the race that has attracted an international field of stars including half marathon specialist Patrick Makau of Kenya, former Berlin, Chicago, and London marathon champion Felix Limo of Kenya, veteran Hendrick Ramaala of South Africa, the 2004 ING New York City Marathon winner, and USA’s Adam Goucher.

The Mount Anthony Union track and field teams competed at the Anthony Luciano Invitational on Saturday, with the girls team taking 11th place and the boys taking 12th place. Nineteen teams participated in each of the meets. Shaker was victorious in the girls meet with a team score of 68.
