The World Cross Country Championships in Poland are over, and I am now focussing on the track season. It was an incredibly tough course and an extremely competitive field, but it was another great experience. I had a stress reaction going into the World Championships, so I was forced to take 10 days off after the race. I am now training in Ifrane, Morocco. by Ryan Vail

Four Oklahoma State runners finished in the top 25, leading the Cowboys to their second national championship in men's cross country over favored Stanford on Monday. Oregon was second, Alabama third and Stanford finished 10th. Liberty's Samuel Chelanga won the individual title in 28 minutes, 41.3 seconds.

Dave Smith is the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at Oklahoma State University. His standout runners include Ryan Vail, German Fernandez, David Chirchir, John Kosgei, Colby Lowe, and Girma Mercheso. This fall, the Oklahoma State men have won the Chile Pepper Festival in Arkansas, the Big 12 Championships, and, on November 14, the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Joseph Manilafasha is a freshman runner at Oklahoma State University. Manilafasha is a two-time Colorado state champion and a three-time Foot Locker XC finalist. He's also a native of Burundi who escaped civil war as refugee. He lived in Tanzania and moved to Colorado when he was 10 years old. This is his first semester at OSU and the true freshman is fighting for a Varsity spot on the Cowboys national power XC team. Get to know Joseph!

In 2008 Coach Dave Smith led the OSU Cowboys into the NCAA Championships as one of the favorites for the national title. Led by freshman sensation, German Fernandez, the team looked good to move up the ranks after finishing in the top ten for the past three years (10th-8th-3rd). However misfortune hit and the Cowboys ended up 8th. Coach Smith goes back to that day in November and talks about what happened while out on the course. He also talks about what was learned from the experience and how OSU has moved forward in the 2009. The Cowboys will be gunning to fight for that National championship again come November 24th.

German Fernandez runs fastest ever junior indoor Mile

German Fernandez an 18-year-old from the USA on Saturday (24) at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, ran 3:56.50, the fastest ever indoor Mile race by a junior athlete in history.

In 1889, the Indian Territory was opened to settlers. Thousands of people lined up on the border and, when the signal was given, they raced into the territory to claim their land. Some people went in early to claim their land. They became known as Sooners.
Hence, Oklahoma's nickname today is “The Sooner State”.
