Ted Zervos, a sixth-grade teacher at McNinch School, ran in the 109th annual Boston Marathon, marking only the second time he had ever competed at this distance, the other being last October in Columbus when he qualified for the Boston event.

An 11th place finish at the 19th News and Sentinel Half Marathon in a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 53 seconds was more than enough to lift the Mountain State product to the top of the Ogden Grand Prix Award. The award, given for the first time on Saturday, is awarded to the top overall male and female runner and walker in both the open and Masters divisions in the Ogden 20K and News and Sentinel Half Marathon.

Jobes, a 2004 graduate of Williamstown High School, was a well-known athlete in the Mid-Ohio Valley.In 2004, he received the Ray McCoy Track Athlete of the Year award, given by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. He also was participating in the track program at the University of Richmond.

Levi Grandt and Amber Riley Lead WV Runners at Footlocker

Running in the Footlocker Seeded race, Levi Grandt, a junior, from Doddridge County placed 35th overall in 15:44 on the 5K McAlpine Course in Charlotte, N.C. Grandt bettered his time from last year's trip by 19 seconds. Amber Riley, a senior, from University High finished as the top West Virginia runner placing 48th in the Seeded race with a time of 18:39.

Bruce Cox was named West Virginia University Tech’s men’s and women’s cross country coach Monday. Cox, the former cross country coach at the University of Charleston, will lead Tech in its first season competing in the NAIA and Mid-South Conference in the fall.
